Tips on Writing Kid's Thank-You Notes Article: The art of writing Kid’s Thank-You Notes
by Nikki Johnston
If you are like me, writing does not come easy. Since the introduction of e-mail, I can now easily jot down a couple thoughts and press send. I don’t have to purchase beautiful expensive stationery, take the time to write and I’m able to send it right away (since I’m usually behind).
Since I just started my own kid’s stationery line, it has reminded me how much we have all stopped using the beautiful art of writing letters. I don’t want my children growing up texting, e-mailing and never writing a single letter to someone. I have been constantly pushing good manners and etiquette with them since they were very little and writing letters is part of that.
I have written this article to help your child write a thank-you letter. The following tips can be a guideline that they can use.
- Find some fun stationery. If your child gets the choice of picking out their own stationery, they will be more excited to write on it. The stationery does not need to be expensive! I offer personalized kid’s note pads for a very affordable price.
- Let your child know that they need to write a thank-you note for every gift that they receive. They don’t need to write them all at once. You can give them a certain amount that you think they can write each day until they are done.
- The thank-you note should be written in cursive if you child knows how.
- Your child should use pen ink, preferably blue-black in color.
- If the thank-you note is informal, let the child be creative using markers or crayons to write with.
Greeting:
Start your thank-you note with Dear ___________,
Body Part of Letter:
Thank the person for your gift and name the gift. Let them know why you appreciate the gift. You can also express how you intend on using the gift.
You will want to thank the person again for the gift before closing.
Closing:
You can use Love, Sincerely, With Love, Regards, Yours Truly to close your letter. Be sure to sign your name.

Example:
Dear Aunt Martha,
Thank you so much for the beautiful sweater that you gave me. I absolutely love the color! It will go beautifully with my new skirt. I cannot wait to wear it!
Thank you again for the sweater.
Love,
Susie
